Prima Spada School of Fence adopts principles from a variety of sources in all of our historical fencing.
This adoption of principles and actions from a variety of manuals allows Prima Spada students the opportunity to practice a comprehensive view of swordplay which focuses on the wider, more universal aspects of swordplay for a more fully rounded development of their skills.
Our HEMA rapier is based heavily on the work of Gerard Thibault in his "Academt of the Sword", and the work of Spanish masters Carranza and Narvaez: "La Verdadera Destreza" while incorporating aspects of other manuals as well. Our sidesword and longsword HEMA training are likewise derived from a number of sources.
